Today also marks the 79th anniversary of the first drive-in theatre, which opened in Camden, New Jersey so many years ago.
For those of you who so far haven’t had the chance to experience this one of a kind institution, I highly recommend you do. My first time at a drive-in was when I was very young; I was seeing a double-feature of the re-release of Oliver and Company and another film, which escapes me. But it’s an indescribable experience, and much like old-fashioned juke boxes and haircuts that cost less than $5, they’ve quickly died out.
That’s not to say they’re all entirely gone. There’s this handy webpage that tells you if there are any drive-ins in your area. And if there are, please, pay it a visit. Experience something new. There’s nothing like watching a good movie under the stars.
